Fishing on the Salmon River has been strong lately.  Good numbers of hookups and fish coming to the net.  Beads, bags, jigs, and egg pattern flies under floats are all producing fish.  Despite the low water, crowds, and mild weather, the fishing has been solid. Drift boating has been a little bumpy lately in the lower flows but we are still able to float the river!

Fishing for dropback steelhead has been remarkable.  Pulling plugs has been the best producer as of late.  Hot shots, wiggle warts and hot-n-tots have all been taking fish for me.  Gold and orange has been the hottest color for me when the sun is up.   Early in the morning anything in silver has been working.  Temps have come up and the fishing is as hot as it gets right now!  We’ve managed a few fish still on the floats.

We have been fishing and doing quite well.  Spawn bags have been taking more fish for us lately.  The bead bite seems to have slowed somewhat.  We are also catching fish on Wooley Buggers and small jigs fished under floats.  Olive and brown have been our go-to colors there.  A few fish have been taken on salted minnows also.  Sometimes all it takes is throwing something a little different at them as opposed to what everyone else is throwing to garner a few more strikes.  It’s been a little slower lately, but as more and more dropback begin making their way back to the lake the fishing will pick up for sure.  The next couple of weeks should be on fire!

Big water has come to the Salmon River and we are finding fish holding in slack water.  Places where you would normally stand if wading are where you want to be fishing.  The inside of bends and behind any obstructions in the water such as rocks or log jams are also holding fish.  White spawn sacs and 10mm beads under floats have been the hot ticket for us lately.

Steelhead continue to be taken in the upper salmon River. We have been doing well on beads, small egg sacs, and egg pattern fly's fished under floats. Water levels have been around 750cfs discharged and the fish are holding in their typical wintering holes. Contact us now to get in on some of the great fishing that the Salmon river has to offer!

-See you on the water
